Neskowin Golf
If you are looking for the place many of Oregon’s golfers started Neskowin Marsh Golf Course is the place. The course is a family oriented place with reasonable fees and a desire to foster young golfers. The hilltop tee box on number eight has been a favorite forever.
The course was built in 1932. When I was a kid we would sit on the rail next to the tiny putting green and ask all the adults if they needed a caddy. We knew the only way we would have enough money to go on Thursday nights Bay ride was to get at least three gigs to caddy at $1.00 a round. The price tag for the Bay ride was $4.00. Although I did not take up gold until sometime later the experience on the course taught me how wonderful it was to walk across those rich green fairways. The Neskowin riding stables are a thing of the past now. We used to spend quite a bit of time feeding the horses.
The neighbors are happy that the horses are gone because they left an unsanitary mess on the beach. If you call the number on the sign in Otis you can stioll arrange for a beach ride.
If you are looking for a championship course the links at Salishan are only a short ride away. The Salishan course was recently updated by Oregon’s favorite son Peter Jacobsen. The Chinook Winds course is close by too.
